Souzan Yousif

Souzan Yousif is a mother to refugees and asylum seekers, the co-founder of Bridgeway Mission in Colchester, a charitable incorporate organisation. She opened Bridgeway Community Hub for refugees and asylum seekers to use as a warm space and run different projects for the community who do not have places to go.

She brings together lived experience, cultural insight, and exceptional compassion to support refugees and asylum seekers from the Middle East and Eastern regions. She not only understands their struggles but anticipates their unspoken needs—emotional, cultural, and practical. Souzan stands out for her ability to create trust with people who often feel voiceless and afraid. She connects deeply with vulnerable women, advocates fearlessly for families in crisis, and leads with humility. Her work goes beyond service provision: she restores dignity, belonging, and hope to people who have lost nearly everything.

She has guided hundreds of families facing homelessness, translated for non-English speakers, and connected individuals to legal, medical, and mental-health services. She built culturally sensitive support spaces where women can express themselves safely, learn new skills, and find confidence. Souzan has led community events to foster integration, created networks of volunteers, and mentored young women who are now active in social and humanitarian work. Her leadership has strengthened local support systems and filled crucial gaps in culturally competent care.

Souzan’s impact is to rebuild the lives of many refugees who fled and integrate them. Her bridge-building work has improved community cohesion and reduced prejudice. She has improved access to essential services, shaped local refugee-support networks, and influenced countless volunteers and future leaders. Her impact is emotional, social, structural, and long-lasting.

Souzan has been dedicated to humanitarian and community support work for many years from 2018. Her commitment began long before Bridgeway Mission and has grown into sustained, long-term leadership within her community.
