Felicia Kwaku
Felicia Kwaku is an Associate Director of Nursing at Kings College Hospital and was the Chair of the Chief Nursing Officer & Chief Midwifery Officer’s Black Minority Ethnic Strategic Advisory Group, NHS England for nearly 7 years until July 2024. She has over 35 years nursing experience, specialised in general Intensive Care/Cardiac nursing. Felicia has held various roles e.g. research nurse, practice educator, lecturer practitioner.
Felicia always has a passion for clinical practice ensuring that patients as well as staff are at the centre of our care. She continues to mentor and coach multiple staff and believes that if the workforce is not highly valued then this is reflected in poor care delivery for patients. Felicia credits her faith in being to withstand and manage the rigours of nursing and keep her compassion for both patients and staff, Felicia still performs clinical duties and is highly visible both in & out of uniform. Felicia led the CNO & CMidO BME SAG to raise the alarm nationally on the disproportionate impact and deaths of nursing and midwifery staff from BME backgrounds from COVID-19. The group heard the concerns and experience of thousands of and made national recommendations to NHS England. This was the most challenging period in her career. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ brought her thorough. She remembers that she and others prayed constantly throughput that time and it is s her faith that bring her through both joyous and times of challenge and tragedy.
Felicia is the Nurse Education Lead, UK for the Save a Heart Nigeria foundation (Charity). Felicia was awarded an OBE for services to Nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 in Queen Elizabeth’s birthday honours list. Felicia received the Chief Nursing Officer Gold award in 2024 for outstanding achievements and performance.
