NOMINEES FOR WISE WOMEN AWARDS 2011

The nominees for the Wise Women Awards, an event that aims to recognise and honour the contributions of the black Christian community to the church and society have been announced.

There are a total of 17 nominees, covering 6 categories. Some of the nominees are known, most are unknown, but all are impacting the church and the wider community.

The list of nominees include:

Michaela Cole – a nominee in the young woman’s award’s category.  This 21 year old, formerly known as Michaela the poet, is renowned for her ground-breaking Christian poetry and internet blog where she writes openly and sometimes controversially about sexual politics amongst the Christian community

Esther Baiden – a nominee in the Overseas Mission category.  She is  helping hundreds of vulnerable women in the UK and Africa through her charity Fo Francis.

Karlene Rickard – a nominee in the Life Turnaround category.  Karlene, an educationalist by profession, has overcome paralysis to write a parenting programming which is credited with helping to create happy families

Kim Bacchus – a nominee in the Life Turnaround category.  Kim is a minister in training and author, she is on a mission to empower women to leave abusive relationships by sharing her testimony of how she overcame domestic abuse.

The Wise Women Awards nominees exemplify what the Wise Women Awards is about, honouring and celebrating the extra-ordinary achievements of ordinary Christian women.

The nominees were nominated by the public.  The list of nominees and final winner of a Wise Women Award has been decided by a special panel of judges:

The winners of the Wise Women Awards were announced on April 2, 2011 at the awards celebration being held at the London Hilton Kensington Hotel, 179-199 Holland Park Avenue, London W11 at 6.30pm.

The winners of the Wise Women Awards were selected by a special panel of judges comprised of Angela Sarkis CBE, Charity Consultant and member of the Youth Justice Board, Dionne Gravesande, Head of Churches and Youth and Education, Christian Aid, Charmain Noble-McLean, Director of Programming, Premier Radio, Sharon Pennant, CEO, CBLC, Diahanne Rhiney, Award winning business woman and Bunmi Folarin.
