Beverley was born in Jamaica and came to the UK in 1960. She has had varied community involvement including: working for Help the Hospices charity; Enfield Council on a project to ‘lower the teenage pregnancy rate’; School Governor; Church Board of trustee; Prison Ministry visitor plus a variety of voluntary work with various children’s groups including The Bridge of Hope Charity, working for 3 weeks in their orphanage in Uganda in 2015.
Although retired, a mother of 3 and grandmother of 4 and whilst training as a counsellor, Beverley had the vision to reach out to the children of Jamaica who are hurting by providing a telephone counselling service. Beverley believes that God has called her to help improve the welfare, wellbeing and aspirational status of children and in particular the children of Jamaica suffering from abuse. She believes that to listen to children in a caring, non-judgemental and confidential manner will empower them to have a voice and to say ‘no’ to abuse, bringing healing and hope for the future well being of the community.
In October 2015 she founded The Ellen Pearl Outreach Children’s Charity in memory of her grandmother Ellen and mother Pearl – two pioneering women of God. This is a UK registered charity working in collaboration with trained volunteer counsellors, Jamaican Telecom providers and with the support of NSPCC Childline UK where she is also a volunteer counsellor. With God’s help work is in progress for the Childline Jamaica to be launched shortly.
